Temporary housing location for Municipality of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel

Project description

In June 2025, Van den Nagel Modulaire Bouw was approached by the Municipality of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel with an urgent request: to realize a temporary housing location for approximately 100 displaced Ukrainian residents before January 1st, 2026.

Although a suitable location was available, the entire process still needed to be developed, including design, permits, technical engineering and the realization of all required utility connections. This full trajectory was successfully completed within a very short timeframe.

From design to permits in record time

In close cooperation with the Municipality of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, the Municipality of Amsterdam and the regional safety authority, the full design was completed within approximately two months. This included both the modular residential buildings and the layout of the outdoor area.

At the same time, permit applications were submitted and preparations for utilities were carried out. Thanks to this integrated approach, all required permits were obtained by early September 2025.

Fast realization through modular building

Immediately after obtaining the permits, production of the six modular residential blocks started. The units were largely manufactured and finished in the factory, which significantly reduced the construction time on site.

Thanks to this efficient process and strong collaboration between all parties involved, the housing units were successfully put into use by the end of December 2025.

Collaboration and result

This project is the result of intensive cooperation, mutual trust and a solution-oriented approach. Within a very short timeframe, a high-quality and safe living environment was realized for the new residents.

The project highlights the strength of modular building in urgent housing situations, where speed, quality and flexibility are essential.
